1.
bird on a limb ----------------------------- gift to a neighbor started from seed a part time believer of what to believe the garden of freedom grows marigold miles began as a whisper than ran down the aisle a glimpse at the dreamer free spirited will newly departed but living there still count out the measures of a lyrical hymn a beast in the chair and a bird on the limb electric serenade led by the psalm found by the waters edge carved out of stone want to sail the world chased from the storm to the bottom of the oceans depth if the chains hold strong electric serenade break into song a storybook chapter read and carved into bone
2.
Automaton 04:31
automaton --------------------------------------- in the beginning of stories we create watched all the pieces begin to animate the silent choir pictured what was said a recreation different from the script don't have to say the words just show me what you mean with careful motions she drew the outlines of an angel and a thief a while later fed from limbs above a seperation from what we used to trust don't have to read the words just watch the silver screen off in the distance I can feel her looking back at me
3.
within your silence is the key to riddle doubts I didn't keep push a note down a bottle throat pull back and throw it out to sea feel the earth shake to unveil a bearing scar count the days held the ocean in a jar it's not worth that much time better in small windows no words to write that will change the outcome the sound of waves salt heals scars of the heart with just one taste held the ocean in a jar now I spend my days far away from the place where I was born far away the ebb and flow shield the wind It's just a start the balance thin I was born far away from where I plan to stay feel the earth shake to unveil a bearing scar count the days held the ocean in a jar
4.
Carousel 06:11
words in the present tense can't hurt to try the past is spent sweeter with time like grapes on the vine turn the key a shift in place forms the start of distant shapes hold the wheel a stone is tossed and ripples grow into a change of heart change of heart the sun aligns and shadows play the staring role focus on the outline, watch the story unfold into the light, face to face, it's time to let go let go dial in adjust the lens blurred until the edge shows a hint of what else lies ahead these images we've kept... out of phase it's clear to find a carousel across the sky out to sea drift away a gift to to know what lies outside the waves outside the waves dedicate the hours of a rising dawn photos of the skyline, trace the visible stars just can't help wondering how small we really are how small
5.
A Former Lie 04:06
my lips were sealed when choices were made feeding the amplified sounds on the lake a moment before the moon reached your eyes and echoed across the endless sky guided by needle point edges are frayed gripping the handle bars, foot on the brakes classroom is spinning, made a mosaic from snapshots and fragments of sentences taken away... build me up hold me tight a friend of yours is a friend of mine true and pure recognize that all wounds heal in their own time I saw it when the characters moved by the cold air that raced in the light of the moon before it disappeared, just past the clearing is seemed so real just like we were beginning again build me up hold me tight a friend of yours is a friend of mine true and pure recognize that all wounds heal in their own time
6.
Paper Wings 04:08
here's an opening line: "paper wings are just enough to fly" if you get it right on your first try listen to the sirens sing about what a new day will bring alive from a sleepless night. watch it rise like a full moon tide feel the rhythm of these paper wings free from the anchor held by broken strings there's a symptom of this thought heels dug in and woke the sleeping dogs skin turned ice from star-fed cries had to take advice, just to make it right feel the rhythm of these paper wings free from the anchor held by broken strings empty all dividing fault and leave without a trace in a landslide, fasten the sails

about

Based in Charlottesville, VA, Honest Engine is the result of collaborative musical efforts from several contributors located throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Through the finished compositions, the members of this project demonstrate that close proximity is not necessarily a requirement to create appealing music.

Following the initial idea for a song, a refreshingly fluid, yet intensely creative process begins. Each subsequent participant takes what already exists and puts their own spin on things, with minimal feedback from other members. This musical exchange replaces traditional band practices and scheduled recording sessions with a continually evolving, less predictable writing and recording process. The flexibility of this approach means that the finished product is entirely self-produced and driven solely by each contributor’s frank perception of the interwoven parts making up the final result.

The songs are vibrant, fresh and fused together with a distinctive energetic fervor. Strong vocals pair smoothly with memorable lyrics, while layered arrangements and inventive textural rhythms come together in powerful and effective arrangements. Honest Engine's tunes invite a listener to get taken in by this stimulating display of artistic cooperation, ultimately benefiting from the potent magnetism of inspired creativity.
